So I was at the Dutch premiere of Helvetica at Kriterion last friday. The film was pretty cool, although slightly longish. I especially liked the city montages between the interviews as they came with better music and less self-indulgence than… say, Massimo Vignelli’s bit. Of course he is a genius but still. Also, I would have liked to have seen more of Hermann Zapf, he was on screen for like, two seconds. Come on, he’s old. Surely he has more to say. Or maybe he did and I fell asleep like my girlfriend did. At the end, Erik Spiekermann made up for the radical plot twist that I was hoping for and never came. He’s the bomb.
